How do I create a new Peer Evaluation activity? (beta)

This article will show you how to create a synchronous and asynchronous peer evaluation activity.

This Guide is for:

  • Super Admin
  • Teacher Admin (Full-Access)
  • Teacher (Owner Full-Access)

There are various methods of peer evaluation divided in three broad categories: qualitative, quantitative and hybrid evaluation.

Here's a guide for an overview of different peer evaluation methods.

Including peer evaluations in team-based activities helps students assess contributions and teamwork skills, fostering self-reflection, feedback, and collaboration within the group.

To create a Peer Evaluation activity:

Step 1: Basic Settings

  • Select the Course and Module
  • Click on the  'New Activity' button
    • Select the activity type 'Peer Evaluation'
    • Select who to evaluate.

    • Enter a 'Name' for the activity and then click 'Go to Questions'.

Step 2: Questions

There are three question formats that you can choose from:

  1. Open-ended Questions
  2. Point Distribution Questions
    1. Michaelsen's Method
    2. Fink's Method
  3. Rating Scale Questions

*Once the questions are added to the Question bank, you can select 'Add from library' in the future.

Step 3: Optional Settings

You can choose to enable or disable the following:

  • Students can change their answers
  • Students must answer questions in sequence
  • Students can navigate to previously answered questions

Step 4: Review

This section allows you to review and make changes to the information from Steps 1 to 3.

You can also save your progress by clicking 'Save & Exit' to return to it later.

Step 5: Publish

This is the final step for publishing an activity.

  1. Asynchronous - All students will take the test at a different time.
    1. Open period - Students will be able to enter and start this activity anytime within the open period. 
    2. Activity Duration - When a time limit is set, the timer will start counting down once the student starts the activity.
  2. Synchronous
    1. All students will take the test at the same time.
    2. Activity Duration - When a time limit is set, the timer will start counting down once the student starts the activity.
Click the green 'Publish' button to publish the activity.
